Subject: 56 X BUICK SESSION APRIL 1 2014
Jim continues to work on the right power rotating bucket seat. He has continued to modify it in order to put the seat mechanicals into as small as a package as possible.
Photos #1, #2, & #3 shows the great progress being made preparing the 4 side draft carburetor manifold for bead blasting. These photos show Don F. doing the polishing on the main part of the manifold, Dick S.. polishing the extensions for mounting the carburetors, while Dick C. also worked on the smaller components, and Don M. worked on the manifold during the previous week.
Photo #4 shows Art polishing and buffing some prior black painted parts. Some of these parts were installed this week by Connie with Chuck S helping.
Chuck showed us a photograph of the mold he built at home for the rear of the rear bucket seats. Next he has to lay the fiber glass material. Since I have never watched this process I have to rely on him and the photographs to explain the exact process.
Chuck also took apart the wiper vacuum motor, cleaned it and lubricated it. The next step is to start one of the other cars in the barn, hook up a vacuum line and test it to see if it works. We started looking for the wiper arms and blades and I guess they were stored in a very good place as we have not found them yet.
Photo #5 show Jerry B. and Del as they continue to work on the reasons the 1917 Buick continues to having a timing issue. They have discovered that the clutch in the Motor-generator unit has too great of a gap and jumps time. Now to close up the gap will be the next job followed by getting this Buick to run. Photo #6 shows this gap and it appears right in the center of this photograph.
From this past photo and all the others that our photographer, Al Batts, has taken we have a running history of the work on the 1917 Buick as well as the Bill Mitchell 1956X plus the 1929-55X.
Photo #7 shows Don M. working on the driver's bucket seat attempting to fit the bucket seat surround.
Photo #8 & #9 shows Ron E. finishing up the installation of the rear bumper "J" pieces. These really look great on the car and they complete the installation of all the components for the rear bumper.
Photo #10 shows the completed assembly of the rear bumper mounted on the completed chassis. Of course prior to dropping the body onto the chassis for painting both the front and rear bumpers will have to be removed.
Paul Prinzing showed up and passed out some Buick memorabilia that he acquired along with some Pontiac memorabilia that he acquired for himself.
Bob Boorsma is back from his winter vacation in Florida and the first job he had was to sort out his bench as it became a place to deposit things. He also tested the new five gang master driver's window lift and head rest lift switch. Everything checked out good.
I will be taking the custom manifold to the engine builder to check it over to see if it is ready for the bead blasting operation at CD's shop.
