Because of some computer problems I am delayed in getting this report out. I may have gotten volunteer names mixed so if I missed someone please forgive me.
Photo #1 shows two major convertible parts and the steering shaft ready for the final color coat of blue. Since all these blue colors were specially mixed according to VP Bill Mitchells desires there were no production colors used out of the catalog of Buick colors.
Photo #2 on the right shows the rear convertible bow being prepared for a second coat. On the left, one of the seat surround being prepared for final paint.
Photo #3 & #4. You will also notice that the 6 way seat button hole is being worked on. The left bucket seat (drivers) must of course have the buttons placed on the left of the seat, while the right bucket seat (passengers) buttons must be of the right side of the seat. The driver's seat turns counter clock wise and the passenger's seat turns clock wise. This requires the buttons to be on opposite sides.
Photos #5 & #6. Our new YH Carter side draft carburetor manifold is being readied for when the restored carburetors arrive from North Carolina, Dean Tryon in NC has finished their restoration. These pieces are extensions that pass over the valve covers and onto these the four carburetors are mounted.
Photo #7 shows Dick Saddler's hands as he works to prepare these tail light housings for the chrome plating process.
Photo #8 shows one of the smallest parts to be chrome plated and that is the turn signal knob stem. Here Ron has already repaired the damaged end of the knob and now he is preparing the shaft.
Photos #9 & #10. We previously reported that "BIG BIRD", as we have now named the main center of the grille, had to be repaired by Ryan DeVries and his employee Roger. Now in photo # 10 we see Jerry Bush dressing up some small pits.
I will be headed to the annual Kalamazoo Swap meet this Saturday to take all the parts that we have to date prepared for chrome plating. I will also be picking up parts that have been chrome plated. It is a long process to repair and then have chrome plated parts for a car restoration. This is one step that you cannot rush.
Our Tuesday January 28 our work session had to be cancelled due to the weather with another Michigan blizzard that started January 24. Roads were closed due to snow drifts, kids having no school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and no mail or paper delivery. It is Michigan and we just have to live with it.
