BUICK CENTURY 56X - Work session for January 4, 2011
Volunteers: Al Batts, Bob Boorsma, Del Carpenter, Dick Chambers, Connie DeJong, Les Dewey, Ron Elzinga, Don Feutz, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Paul & Marjo Prinzing, Dick Saddler, Chuck Snow.
56X - The major job for the 56X was to prepare the frame for its final color coat. Lots of sanding and some touch up on the frame in both the AM and PM. Too many of the volunteers to list. The frame turn over was an extremely useful tool today.
Dick Saddler started the job of working on the "BUICK" and "CENTURY" letters that were originally hand crafted at GM's Styling
Studio. All the fasteners must be replaced as well as some letters recreated. This will be a long process as this is all hand work.
SHOP WITH CAR HOIST - The two people door frames were hung
today and the hardware installed. Bob, Del, and Chuck worked on this project. Del installed the electrical plugs. Chuck and Bob finished boxing in the exhaust on the new furnace installation.
With heat in the hoist room my grandson has already shown up two days to work on his car. It has been in the 10's & 20's all week!
SPECIAL WORK SESSION ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 6, 2011
Volunteers: Al Batts, Del Carpenter, Connie DeJong, Ron Elzinga, Don Mayton, Art Meidema.
We had a crew come on Thursday to paint the final color coat of "Semiole Red". "Semiole Red" is a very bright red-orange color. First a final go over on the entire frame with a scuffing pad followed by a little touch up of primer. Then the bright color was sprayed on the frame. Connie and Art did the spotting as Del and Ron did the spraying. The frame looks fantastic!!
Al did the photographing both on Tuesday and Thursday. We will have a photo in next week's edition of the report.
SPECIAL WORK SESSION - Saturday January 8, 2011
Volunteers, Don Mayton & Joshua Vuyst (my grandson)
The hoist room is 15' wide, 35' long with a 15' ceiling and after the new wall and closing in both ends and the ceiling the room needed painted. We built a scaffold on top of the car hoist and with the addition of ladders, long handled paint rollers, 3 gallons of paint, we managed to get the room painted in 4 hours.
