56X Work Session - November 3, 2015
Volunteers Jim Baker, Al Batts, Bob Boorsma, Jerry Bush, Del Carpenter, Dick Chambers, Ron Elzinga, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Ken Tunistra
Del worked on some details on the engine and by afternoon he was ready for another trial run. It was decided since it was a nice day with the sun shining Del would take everyone for a ride two at a time. So our photographer, Al, took photos of every one traveling in the chassis with Del. Other than an few non-engine issues like loose lug nuts and one spare part falling off on the driveway the engine purred like a kitten. Success!
In the morning since we were getting concerned that with the special custom air filters for the carburetors mounted, there would be interference with the front inner fenders. The right and left inner fenders will have to have modifications done to allow clearance for the air cleaners. Roger had made a proper sized model of the future air cleaner so we could do this simulation. I had a long time suspicion that this would happen as when I first got the car there were no inner fenders with the car. The owner stated when I asked him about this he stated they were rusted out. It is unusual for inner fenders to rust out except where they are attached to the frame. Our inner fenders came from a donor 56 Buick.
Ryan DeVries is scheduled to make the carburetor air filters. Dick, Art and Jerry did the fitting of the inner fenders so that this work could be done and determine the method to alter the inner fenders.
Ken continued to work on the wiring for the seats going as far as he could. Next he and Bob started laying out the new and old electrical harness. I know that the new harness would have to be extensively modified to accommodate all the changes and added appliances that Bill Mitchell had built into this car. Ken has already done the wiring on the special powered seats and now is looking at all the other items. Too many to mention here.
Ron continues to work on the rivets for the convertible top. He finished his last rivet and now the fitting of the top parts begin. He and Jerry have been working on these top pieces.
Jim continues to develop the powered head rests. Don is working on the seat surrounds. Bob is finishing up on the many detail pars on the instrument panel.
There is a lot of work going on in two different areas of the barn so I know I miss a lot of other work being performed.
