56 X BUICK SESSION FEB 28 2012

Volunteers - Jim Baker, Al Batts, Jerry Bush, Del Carpenter, Dick Chambers, Don Feutz, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Dick Saddler, Chuck Snow

The steering wheel photo is the original steering wheel for this 1956X Buick. You will note that this steering wheel has an unusual rubber or some type of plastic coating that makes it soft to the touch. You can also see it is badly weathered. Since this will be an on going challenge for its restoration another

e-mail will following only discussing the steering wheel.

Jim continues to work on the power swivel - head rest seats. He has completely disassembled the BMW modern seat to do his reverse engineering. Today he demostrated the BMW seat head rest working.

Jerry became our go to guy for brazing and welding doing many different jobs for Dick S., Don Feutz, and others.

Jerry also brought a set of cast parts that he had a friend make for the latches. Now these need prepared for chrome plating. Don Feutz is working on the very small parts for the parade boot latches. One set has to be hand made.

Dick Sadder continues to do the work of installing the driving lights.

Dick Chambers is working on preparing small parts for chrome plating. We have many many parts that must be done.

The steering box had to be rebuilt by a local trucking maintenance center. The local garages could not do it as they could not find seals for the leading box. Weller Truck, who did many jobs for us as we restored the Futurliner did the 56X steering box. Today Del took the steering box and he and Art worked preparing it for painting, then primer, and finally the original red paint. It is outstanding.
