1956X BUICK WORK SESSION FOR FEBRUARY 14, 2012
VOLUNTEERS ; Jim Baker, Al Batts, Jerry Bush, Del Carpenter, Connie DeJong, Don Feutz, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Dick Saddler.
Jerry and Dick S. after completing the modification of the bumper brackets continued to assemble components of the front bumpers. They also discovered due to the special trim pieces that are on the front of the bumper ends they had to make some modifications. The special trim has horizontal bars machined in a piece of brass as shown in the photograph.
Del had to locate our spare heater core after discovering that the one we took to the radiator shop as scrap. He had to disassemble the box that houses the heater core. Tomorrow we will stop at the radiator shop to determine the condition of this heater core. It appears to be in good shape. Del also did some sand blasting of some of the black metal parts that need painted.
Connie and Art completed one black metal part today along with one front inner fender today. There are a lot of black metal parts to be sand blasted, primed, and painted. Some will have to have damage repaired.
Don F. and Don M. worked on recreating one of the boot latches. We only have one and I have looked for years for a second one. Last year at Hershey I was told that the boot latches, which are a 1956 Cadillac part, are impossible to find so we will make one.
Jim took apart the motor for one of the rotating front bucket seats to take a look at the brushes. He does not want to have to do maintenance on the motor after he has the seat installed in the car. That is just good preventative maintenance. The brushes looked good.
You can see Jim working on his rotating seat mechanism.
Jerry and Dick working on assembling the front end after completing the necessary modifications. Notice the bumper bombs with the modifications for the driving lights. The original bumper bombs with these modifications were so rusted out that they could not be saved.
Don M. doing some work making a part that is missing.
Photos compliments of Al Batts.
