value self portrait

We were assigned to make a self portrait exploring the use of value to create shape and shadows on our face. We made the self-portrait using different types of graphite pencils and erasers as well as a tortillon. I used the element and principle of value and contrast to create this piece. The piece changed through the time I worked on it in many ways, but the most drastic was I erased most of the right side of my face to redo it. The image I chose was taken out of boredom but I think shows me in a pretty accurate representation. The picture does not really relate to my life that much, but I am proud of the way the values in the picture are pretty close to the original. I struggled most with keeping a consistent value across spaces of same darkness as well as keeping my shading smooth as I would like it to be. However, my shading remains woefully scratching and that is what I would change, even though it would mean redoing the whole drawing.
