inclusion design

For my inclusion design I created an exit sign with a handicapped door opener and a braille label. I used charcoal on blue toned paper to create this artwork. I used mostly a charcoal pencil or a compressed charcoal as well as a white conte piece. This piece used line and value in its creation. The line and value were both used to create a high contrast image like most signs are.

The composition of this artwork has the sign very centered and with some formal balance being used in the way I tried to get each side of the sign to be symmetrical. The edges of the sign also frame the writing, braille, and door opener. This project didn’t evolve much. I re-sketched the design multiple times before I added charcoal but my idea never changed. I also switched the type of charcoal midway during the shading. I was using a less compressed charcoal but I switched because I didn’t like how it smudged out a little brown.

This project was meant to help illustrate an inclusive community where each person has equal representation and opportunity. This project doesn’t really relate to my life too much other than it is meant to be an example of what or how an ideal society would look. I think to improve this artwork I would use a stencil on the writing. I might also just create an entirely new piece but I don’t have any other ideas for an inclusion design.
