macro leaf project

My painting was a zoomed in view of a leaf. We found a leaf or other object we liked outside and cut it to a shape and did a zoomed in view of our object. I made my leaf painting using watercolor on paper. I chose to paint this specific leaf because it was an interesting color and had some variation in the colors and values. The whole painting was a shape because it was only in two dimensions. The values on the leaf were part of why I chose it because the leaf had darker areas of yellow and sections of different colors altogether.

My painting changed over the course of the time by becoming darker. The leaf itself had begun to turn more brown from the time I started the project to the end so I had to add more brown to the yellow I had already put on the paper. I also tried to add green to the veins because they were slightly green on the actual leaf, but the green was very hard to see in the end.

I created this image from a leaf I found so it means a little more to me because I found the subject of this painting. The project doesn't relate too much to my life. If I was to change or add something in the future I would add more small veins through the leaf. I would also try to change how it scrubbed the paper off. I added a lot of layers and water which led to the paper becoming soft and shedding a little bit. To change this I would have to redo the entire painting, so it is unlikely that I change this in the future.
