This series of three was each a different piece. I created a zoomed in image of my left knuckle of my pointer finger from a profile view, a drawing of a dodecahedron I made out of clay in eighth grade, and a picture of a diploma from Freeport High School. Each of these was a prompt to exercise and refresh your observational drawing skills. All of these three things relate to my life, My knuckle is part of my body so it has a very obvious connection to me. The clay dodecahedron was a project that I hated doing. It was my first time using clay and did not enjoy it, but I think it’s really cool now and am glad I made. The diploma isn’t mine, because I haven’t graduated yet, but it is a physical representation of the somewhat near future for me.

Again I turned to charcoal and toned paper. I always love using charcoal and toned paper makes it automatically more cohesive in my opinion. I also used a white conte pencil because I didn’t have any white charcoal. This conte pencil didn’t blend as well as I hoped, But it worked out.

I used value and shape to create these three drawings. For the dodecahedron I used value to differentiate between each pentagon shaped side. Value also helped make it look slightly more three dimensional as well. The diploma was just a corner of square turned to make the composition more interesting. I used value on the diploma to show the two different sides that hinge open. Valeu helped to add detail to my knuckle drawing. Once I knew what thigs i was going to draw It went smoothly except for when I had to track down some sort of white charcoal or conte. My next steps with this project would be to push my values darker and make each drawing more defined, less vague and smudgy.
