Sustained Investigation #14

4"x6"

The second to last installment in my sustained investigation was another self portrait. I have a pronounced lack of portrait viable photos of other people so I usually end up taking a bunch of random pictures of myself and doing one of those. I can’t really just draw faces without reference because I don’t really understand the proportions so I use references. THis is yet another portrait of myself so it is a depiction of me and is connected to me.

Again I used acrylic on cardboard. My method for making these portraits has become pretty repetitive in that I use the same style, material, and usually the same subject for them all. I used blue, red, black, and white acrylic to create this specific portrait.

The style I have been using breaks the portraits down into shapes that I then fill in. These shapes are the main component of my portraits that can then be filled in with color. This portrait used color in the background. I moved away from my reference towards the end of making my portrait. I had begun to run out of paint so I used the colors I had left to finish it. MY next steps could be to add more values so there is more detail on the face.
