abstract class collaboration

These two squares were duplicated from a smaller one inch by one inch image. They are part of a larger piece that was split up into these squares and distributed to the students to duplicate. I created one of the duplicates using a blue marker that I layered and layered to make it dark. I created the other one with compressed charcoal. These two artworks use value. They express the extremes of the value scale.

These were duplicates so we didn’t have much say in the composition and thus I didn’t use any compositional techniques. I wasn’t originally planning on using the marker to make one but I didn’t want to create both in charcoal so I decided to use the marker. The charcoal square originally only had one type of charcoal on it but I added a more compressed charcoal to make it darker.

My two squares were a small part of a larger image that was cut up and we were given pieces to duplicate. This was a school wide art class collaboration and because of this it is a community activity. This is also shown in the actual image which is another reference to our school community. Other than the community attachments this project doesn’t really relate to my life because it was a duplicate. To improve these artworks I would have added a more interesting way to create dark values. I would have tried to incorporate a pattern or dots to create value.
