concentration #2

For the second piece in my concentration I did a portrait of my father in embroidery. I embroidered this portrait using a needle, different colors of thread, and a fabric background. I chose to do this portrait because it was the only photo of a person I had on my phone. I used color, value, and texture to create this portrait.

I didn't have any composition techniques in my mind when I created this, but it doesn't have very definite lines or details so soft focus could be applied to this portrait. This project compared to my last project didn't evolve that much. This project went somewhat according to plan. The only hiccup was that I ran out of the blue green string. I also didn't have enough of the light blue to do the entire pink section, so I used the pink and I think it looks alright.

The original picture was taken on a boat ride with our friends where we celebrating My brother and the other family's child going to college. My dad was trying on My brother's sunglasses when this photo was taken. The project relates to my life in the way that it is a revival of my sewing skills that I learned in middle school. I think I could improve my artwork by adding a border (which I will definitely do) and sealing the ends of my strings so it doesn't unravel. It won't unravel unless someone starts pulling at the threads but I think I will do it anyway.
