This year we also did a beautiful oops drawing where we started from a random ink splatter or drop and had to make something out of it. I chose a paper with two drops on it: One above the other. I took this to be a keyhole and made a key going into a keyhole. I used a varieties of graphite pencils, a fine marker, and some graphite blocks. I chose to do this format because I thought a key would be a cool thing to draw for this project. The two dots of ink are pretty central so I made the key coming out of them and somewhat down the page. I also added a deadbolt at the top corner.
I used value along the whole piece where I shaded the door and surrounding wall. I tried to use some form on the deadbolt and the key, but I don’t know if it worked. I tried to fill the negative space by putting the sign on the wall but it still looks pretty empty. I had started out with just an outline but then I learned it should be a semi-completed piece so I added a little shading.
This artwork was created as a use of a random ink blot: So it doesn’t have too much meaning or relation to my life. If I was to change something I would make it more of a finished piece by starting out with the idea that it would be a finished thing by the end of the project.
