This was the print.
I created a relief portrait out of a linoleum block. I carved out the lighter values using a carving tool. The surface I was carving was a rectangle of linoleum. I had already used this image once and it was the only image of a face with enough contrast to create a linoleum carving out that I had access to at the time. The final carving used contrast and value to show the details and areas of color.
The relief used sharp focus to outline the areas of dark or light. This project didn't see too much evolution. I began with this image and the carving occurred without any hiccups. The only evolution happened when I decided to paint the carved away areas white and then roll the black ink back over the block to create the contrast with the black and white.
This carving was of an image I ad already used to create another self portrait. I had used the same picture for the 2d design project where I created a self portrait using selective color on the blues in the picture. This is a self portrait so it relates to my life in that way. To improve my artwork I would probably try to add white to the places where the linoleum shows through. There aren't many of these areas, but there are a few and they are somewhat noticeable.
