covid-19 student response

This project began as just a test to see what oil paint sticks looked like. I tried to make it chaotic and then scratch the face out of the background. There is a face that is evident, but it is more of an outline. This project was made to be chaotic and unorganized as a way to show the uncertainty that has come with the outbreak of coronavirus.

I used oil paint sticks, ink, and an exacto knife to create this piece. The oil paint sticks make up the smudged background. I tried to keep a little bit of a pattern going, but it didn’t fit with what I wanted the piece to look like so I smudged it more. The ink was used as an outline and the exacto knife was used to scrape the oil paint sticks and ink off of the paper for outlines.

Not many processes were used in making this. Color is included but my focus was more on making it seem disorganized and almost sickly looking. This project started as a way to test the oil paint sticks but then grew into an entire background. I cut some of the background off when I took my picture because it doesn’t really look that good. My next steps could be to add more values on the face to make it more realistic.
