Time Capsule Drawings

These time capsule drawing are a series of drawings of a self portrait, an image of my feet, an object I despise (tomatoes), and a perspective drawing. I made the first three using charcoal on regular drawing paper, but for the perspective drawing I used a 4b graphite pencil. This series utilised a lot of value in the portrait, foot, and tomato drawing. There was also line in the perspective drawing.

This project was devoid of compositional rules. I usually am not thinking about them when I create art, which is something I want to get better at, but I can usually assign some of the rules to the project later. No such luck with this project however because I cannot see where any of the rules would apply. This project did evolve though. I was originally planning on doing the portrait in a rectangle but I decided to do the circle because the mirror I was using was also circular.

These artworks are again created loosely from a prompt so they don’t relate too much to my life. The tomato drawing however does. It being an object I despise it fits with my personal preferences in vegetables (or fruits depending on your view of tomatoes). I have always hated tomatoes. I dislike the texture, taste, and smell of them and thus this drawing relates to my life. To improve this series I would add a background to my portrait and make my tomato drawing in color.
