I made another portrait for the tenth sustained investigation. I tried to maintain the same style that I have been using to create portraits so it fit in with my previous projects. This portrait is of a great family friend of ours who we spent a lot of time with when I was younger. We have known this person for a long time and he is part of my life.
I again used ink on cardboard to create this portrait. The cardboard is the backing of a pack of watercolor paper. I like the cardboard because this type is stiff enough that it doesn’t bend that much but the ink also doesn’t bleed out into it. I used india ink to for the portrait and the white in the background is acrylic that I used to smooth out the cardboard.
I used color primarily to create this portrait. I wanted to keep the same style as the last few projects but to do the face in color. I chose purple because I could mix it easily with black or white to get different shades of purple. I originally tried to do a different person but I didn’t like how it was turning out so I painted over it with white acrylic. I also was going to do this person’s entire body but stopped after I realized my sketch was off a little bit. My next steps could be to clean up the smudges on the front of the person’s torso and to try and add more texture to the hair.
