duck stamp

We were told to create a piece for the national duck stamp competition. I created my entry using colored pencils. I used color, value, and contrast to create my final drawing.

I didn't have a horizon line because the horizon is not visible because I chose to create a fully water background. The project didn't change much over the time it took to create. I was originally planning to put reeds halfway down the background but I decided against it for the purpose of finishing on time. Other than that small change the project remained the same for its duration.

This project was created to be a competition submission, but because of this project I have begun to want to see a king eider in the wild. This project has made me want to see a King Eider in the wild so it relates to my life in that way. I would improve the artwork in the future by adding more layers to have less white showing through.
