For the arrive alive competition I chose to do a drink reading a map with a crashed car in the background. I wanted to include a map so I could use the slogan “Alcohol is a bad navigator”. This project doesn’t really relate to me at all, but this issue is relevant with our age group.
I used watercolor pencils and a fine point pen to create this piece. I did the text in pen and the rest was done in watercolor pencils and then painted over. I didn’t paint over the map the second time and this was because I didn’t want the road lines to disappear.
I used color to create this painting. Color made the subject of a full glass reading a map much more apparent than if I had just used Black and white. With black and white the subject could have been able to be figured out, but it wouldn’t be as easy to. I originally started the project using regular watercolors, but switched to watercolor pencils because it created a clearer image for me. My next steps could be to add more trees around the text. I could fade the tres the closer they got to the text so the writing stands out.
