whatchamadrawit

The whatchamadrawit is a game that provides a prompt from which you then have to create your interpretation of the prompt in an drawing, painting, or other form of art. My prompt was a princess sitting in an apple tree playing a banjo. I made this creation using graphite pencils and blocks, a tortillion, and a red colored pencil. I chose this card from a choice of two cards because I thought it would provide a more interesting final product. I used value to create depth and make the tree look somewhat round and generally make the drawing more than just an outline. The image is arranged central to the page with the princess in the middle of the page.

I didn’t create this artwork with any composition techniques in mind. There is however a low horizon line formed by the ground under the tree. This project was pretty linear and straightforward. I sketched out my idea and from there began shading and finalizing the details of the drawing. The red apple was not originally in my plan but I needed some way to show that this was an apple tree not just a tree.

This artwork was interpreted from a written prompt and this is my idea of what it would look like. This was the first project of the year and was my re-entry into creating art. I have always liked the look of bent and twisted apple trees and this tree was shaped similarly to a tree at the kindergarten I went to. To improve this artwork I would probably change the Princess and move the apple. The apple looks really out of place hanging of the side of the picture, to change this I would probably add more apples or move the singular apple more central to the princess. The princess also bothers me. I think this is because most of her body parts (hands, feet, and face) are either too dark or too light and blurry. To change this I would probably just redo the princess a little bigger so I would have room to add more detail and shading.
