SAFE PRACTICES
INTRO:
1.Injuries are a major community health problem.
2.Reducing hazards and encouraging safe practices in the school environment is a necessary requirement.
3. The school community must be made aware and accept its obligations with regard to the safety of students.
OBJECTIVES:
1.To prevent injury and reduce hazards in the school environment.
2.To have a procedure for recording information related to student and staff injury.
GUIDELINES:
1.To ensure that updated lists of emergency contacts and existing medical conditions are available for every student.
2.To establish procedures for the treatment and referral of injured students.
3.To keep records of injuries and to use this information to evaluate injury prevention strategies.
4.To identify and modify hazardous environments and activities so as to reduce the frequency of severity of injuries.
5.Where aspects of the environment are identified as being hazardous to safety, it is expected that this information will be relayed to the Property Manager via the Principal or his/her representative and that with whatever consultation is necessary, such matters shall be acted upon immediately.
6.Internal checks of school buildings to be carried out and signed off as per Building Warrant Code. Internal & external checks to be carried out and signed off as per schedule in Health & Safety manual kept in archive cupboard opposite office.
