PT ENGLAND SCHOOL POLICY 2005
CHILDREN AT SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL CLOSES
1. No child should be held back by a teacher after school closes unless a note has gone home the day before and parent’s assent has been given.
2. It is school policy that all children who are walking should cross the crossings before the Traffic Supervision comes in unless they are staying for an agreed after school programme.
3. Children may stay later at school if parent permission is granted for:- sports, culture, music practices, etc.
4. If a child has been left at school and has not been picked up by half an hour after school closes, the teacher will inform the Management Team.
The child will then be kept in the Administration area of the school awaiting pick-up.
5. The child will be kept in the Administration area as long as there are at least 3 adults remaining. When these people begin to leave, if no appropriate whanau member has been located, the child will be transferred to Mr Burt’s house at 208 Riverside Ave or to our Chairperson's house on Maybury St These houses have been nominated and approved as our school “Safe Houses”. If these places are not available we will transfer the child to the Glen Innes Police Station.
6. Irrespective of whether the child is at school or at 208 Riverside Ave or 4 Anderson, the Police will be notified if the child has not been collected by 5.30 p.m. The Police will be notified of the projected whereabouts of the child, should the parent ring and enquire once the school is closed.
7. In a case where a child has not been collected after school, the school will contact the parent/caregiver that night or the next day to express concern at what has happened and to ensure that measures are taken in order that it should not happen again.
