CLASSROOM TEACHER RELEASE TIME
INTRODUCTION:
This is an operational policy designed in consultation between the Board, Principal and Teaching Staff of this school. The policy is written in co-conjunction with clause 5.30 of the Primary Teachers Collective 2023 - 2025
INTENT & PURPOSE:
The intent of classroom release time is to address teacher workload while maximising benefits for student learning.
Classroom release time will be professionally useful for the school’s teaching and learning programmes, the teachers’ professional growth and the learning needs of the students.
PROCEDURES:
1. In our school, classroom release time will be used for:
i) Planning
ii) Reflection
iii) Reporting
iv) Team professional development
v) Assessment
vi) Attestation Observations, Peer Coaching Observations
vii) Other use as agreed on from time to time between teacher & principal
2. Allocation of Classroom Release Time:
The total amount allocated per teacher designated in the Collective Agreement, will be given to each teacher as long as staff can be found to provide the release time.
Pt England School will, for the most part, use the paid time allocation to provide specialist programmes for learners which will also provide the release time for teachers. This means teachers will not be taking their release as whole days but as hours per week, dependent on the the size of the allocation in a collective settlement.
3. Allocation of other Release Time:
i) Team Leaders 0.5 day/week
ii) Curriculum Leaders As needed/negotiated
4. Where Release cannot be provided for genuine reasons.
i) Release time will be made up where practicable within the school timetable.
ii) Reasons for non-delivery to be recorded
iii) Use record of non-delivery when reviewing policy
5. Procedure Reveiw
i) This interim policy reviewed on 12/12/05
ii) After review, policy set for subsequent school year & now to be reviewed as staffing changes or as student learning needs necessitate or as the Collecctive Agreement is varied
