INJURY PREVENTION & TREATMENT
INTRODUCTION:
From time to time children or staff injure themselves in the course of duty, play or school activity.
OBJECTIVES:
To ensure that wherever possible, injury is pevented.
To ensure that early treatment reduces future problems
To ensure that staff are adequately trained
To ensure we have effective procedures for injury treatment.
GUIDELINES:
1. Supervision of and permission for games and activities will always be carried out and granted with a view to managing risks and reducing potential for accidents
2. There are to be no tackle games at Pt England without teacher supervision.
3. Bumps and bruises will have ice-packs applied as soon as possibleĀ
4. School staff will be on a rota of 1st Aide training so that there are always enough teachers and support staff in each team whose qualifications are up to date.
5. 1st Aide packs will be carried on school and class trips.
6. Staff will use gloves when treating children in the sickbay.
7. If there is uncertainty as to the degree of injury, staff are to call for the "Work Safe" certificated staff member or office staff.
8. In the event of continued uncertainty, parents will be contacted and an ambulance called.
9. If there is any suspicion that the child should not be moved an ambulance will be called.
10. No child is to be left in the sickbay without the office or "work safe" trained staff being informed.
11. Children in the sick bay are not to be discharged by themselves or a parent. They are to be discharged by office, management, or "work safe" trained staff.
