COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
INTRODUCTION:
Infections are easily passed in schools and we wish to limit this as far as is practicable
OBJECTIVES:
1. To prevent the spread of infectious diseases
2. To ensure good safety habits when dealing with 1st aid.
GUIDELINES:
1. Information for parents is stocked in the school office and given out on enrolment.
2. The school will arrange with the Public Health Nurse to keep the school informed about communicable diseases.
3. Staff members will be familiar with the procedures on the communicable diseases chart and follow those procedures.
4. Staff members will notify the school Nurse, Team Leaders, then Associate Principals, then Principal when a child's health is giving serious concern. Parent/Caregiver will be informed. Cases will often be referred to Health Nurse. Staff members should not take children directly to a doctor without this prior notice.
5. Known health information pertaining to individual students is documented and subject to Privacy Act requirements.
6. Staff members will always wear disposable gloves when dealing with any accident or emergency.
7. Staff will wear masks and use hand sanitiser when recommended
8. The school will follow all Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education guidelines when dealing with communicable disease, endemic or epidemic.
