PT ENGLAND SCHOOL POLICY
TEACHER INDUCTION
INTRO:
All schools experience some degree of transience and movement among their staff. We wish to ensure that all new staff are introduced effectively into the Pt England School Culture
OBJECTIVES:
1. To ensure that Beginning Teachers receive the provision allocated by the Ministry of Education in an effective and organised fashion
2. To ensure that Overseas Teachers receive their resource allocation in a way that best facilitates their induction into the school and into the country
3. To ensure that all new staff receive effective induction into the school
4. To ensure that all teachers at Pt England comply with the requirements of Teacher Registration, Appraisal & Attestation.

2. All staff will be taught how to use the items above and other essential infrastructure.
3. All staff will be taken through the essential initial protocols for Pt England that are covered in some of the documentation above.
4. There will be an intensive preparation day prior to the first day of school, every year. These days, known as Teacher Preparation Days will not be used by staff to get their classrooms ready. They will be used specifically for the induction mentioned above.
5. All new staff will attend the 2 day Manaiakalani Orientation Course
6. When staff begin at Pt England, part way through the year, other arrangements will be made so that the induction is still carried out.
6. Overseas Teachers will receive their relocation allowance as appropriate and as stated in the Teachers Collective. They will also receive their release allocation in order to facilitate some of the above induction, as well as giving them an opportunity to visit other classes or work with their Team Leader.
7. Beginning Teachers will receive their release allocation on a weekly basis. It will not be used simply as a time to get planning up to date, but will be viewed as a resource which might enable a visit to another class or school, working with a team leader, releasing a team leader for observation in a B/T classroom. The use of this resource will be subject to negotiation with team leader and Associate Principal. The resource will, however, be used for the benefit of the Beginning Teacher. Beginning Teachers will be furnished with appropriate PRT records of progress and will keep their own portfolio's of work in the GAFE environment.
8. Y1 & 2 teachers will each have a 'Mentor Teacher', who will meet with them regularly to discuss their development as teachers and to assist with day to day issues, as well as co-ordinating professional development. A report on progress & issues to date will be prepared for the Principal each semester.
9. Staff new to Manaiakalani and PES will be provided with an initial year of In class Facilitation, enrolment in the Digital Fluency Intensive, and then subsequently enrolment in the Reading Practice Intensive and Maths Practice Intensive. If they need training in BSLA, Numicon or Prime, that will be provided as a priority
10. All staff who come onto the Pt England payroll as regular teachers will be entered onto the Teachers Database which will keep a record of current qualifications, grade, step, attestation, registration and due dates. Staff are held responsible for keeping their own registration up to date, but will receive friendly reminders from the office as necessary.
11. Teachers who's registration has lapsed and have gone beyond the grace period allowed by the NZ Teachers Council, will be stood down until such time as the situation has been rectified (unless the NZ Teachers Council is processing a renewal). We will not employ un-registered teachers.
