PT ENGLAND SCHOOL POLICY
A PATHWAY TO SUCCESS
Pt. England BOT, Staff and Parents strive for excellence in all the children and are actively pursuing a pathway from the Kindergarten next door, through our school and ultimately to the University several blocks away or to apprenticeship or employment so that all children fulfil their potential.
This is happening because of the focused programme we offer and the way in which we strive to meet the individual needs of the children.
The school has a Charter and an Achievement policy that clearly states the expectations of the BOT, the Staff and the Community.
In order to realise these expectations the following occurs:
1. The Student Care & Management Plan ensures that all children are safe and treated with respect, and that they are valued as individuals and able to work in a learning environment.
2. Barriers to learning have been clearly identified in individuals and in the community as a whole. (attached)
3. The BOT acknowledges the National Education and Learning Priorities in all School organisation and Teaching.
4. The School assessment policy clearly states that full and thorough assessment procedures are carried out both as part of classroom practice and as school wide data gathering and that assessment results are used to plan appropriate programmes for individual children and groups . Formal assessment such as SEA, Phonics checks, PAT, and The NZ exams for extension children are carried out .
5. The programmes provided in the school follow the NZ Curriculum Documents, the NZC Progressions and all 7 Essential learning areas are covered and planning includes the Essential Skills, Attitudes, Values and Key Competencies as stated in the NZ Curriculum Framework.
6. The school wide planning method, through classs sites and Google Docs ,is structured to enable a streamlined and balanced planning, assessment, and reporting to parents system that can also be used to identify strengths and weakness in our teaching and learning .
7. Because of the number of NESB children at the school we are fully committed to the NESB approach to teaching and learning as introduced to the school by Dr. Jannie van Hees . The assessment and evaluation of the NESB children gives rise to ESOL groups, funded by the Ministry.
8. A variety of programmes are provided in the school to meet the learning needs of the children , the Curriculum objectives, and the extension of children.
9. A kaiako Māori is employed by the school to teach the Language and culture to the children and assist with the highly successful multi -cultural groups.
10.Statistical data is gathered and analysed in yearly cycles to evaluate the achievement levels of the children and assist in Staff development planning.
11. Progressions based on the Curriculum objectives are compiled for all subject areas and children are assessed against them at the end of each year. These measurements tell us how our children are doing compared with the national expectation.
12. The Board and Management of the school have mandated the Pt England Learning Principles, and the Manaiakalani Learn, Create, Share pedagogy, which include Planning and Learning Models which are to be used at all levels of the school and in all classes
13. The Board and staff are committed to measuring value added to determine the degree of school improvement and to be informed as to the success or otherwise of new initiatives and professional and curriculum development.
The BOT supports the many and varied programmes in the school and the Staff Professional Development by providing appropriate funding to ensure that every opportunity is given for the children to achieve at their highest level.
Knowing our community, identifying the barriers to learning, planning and assessing and teaching our children in a balanced and structured manner, and measuring our achievement will enable us in time to satisfy our vision of a pathway through our community towards excellence and achievement in all areas.
