MANAGEMENT UNITS
OBJECTIVES:
1. To manage the allocation of funds received as management units
2. To ensure EEO principles are observed when the number of units is increased or decreased
3. To ensure that the most beneficial placement takes place.
PROCEDURE:
1. Staff employed under the CEC whose position attracts management units will be paid the face value of the units.
2. Units awarded to the A.P.’S will be of equal value unless their jobs have been constructed of very differently weighted responsibilities. A.P. will be known as Associate Principals. The Deputy Principal will be understood as the person who acts as Principal in the Principal's absence. Units attached to those positions will reflect the number of children on the roll and the number of teachers in the establishment.
3. Management units will be awarded first for team leader’s positons, if the school roll generates total units above the current number units. Units attached to Team Leaders will generally be considered permanent.
4. Units generated by the school roll over and above the need for team leader’s positions, will be awarded for school wide responsibilities. Examples of this kind of responsibility could be the School Library, the School Sports Programme, the School Culture Group, eLearning etc.
5. Management unit position vacancies will be advertised nationally as always.
6. Units where there is no actual vacancy will advertised internally using an appointment process similar to positions advertised nationally.
7. In the event of a falling roll reducing the number of positions and/or units, the procedures outlined in NZEI circular no. 24/1998 will be followed
