IMPORTANT!!!
All water heaters in the state of Kentucky are required to be permitted and inspected.
Below are the specific codes:
Home Depot Supply List Plumbing: Water Heaters
Burr Oak uses 2 types of water heaters tanked and tankless. ALWAYS use electrical products. If a gas tank exists, change to electric.
Tanked water heaters are used where a tanked water heater has already been used.
Tankless water heaters are used where there is currently or will immediately be upgraded to 200 amp electrical service. Only install if a significant amount of drywall is specifically removed between the panel and heater. Occasionally, there may be an instance where a conduit is needed.
TANKED WATER HEATER
Tanked Water Heaters should have electricity supplied via a 2 pole 30 amp double pull circuit breaker, going to a 60 amp AC/Disconnect, with the supply line sleeved, regardless of the water heater's proximity to the electrical panel.
TANKLESS WATER HEATER
Tankless water heaters will be installed in all significant remodeled projects.
We transitioned to only using Rheem Tankless Water Heater.
Use the 27 KW model when there is more than 1 bathtub or shower in a property. Use the 13KW when there is only 1 bathtub or shower in the property.
ATMOR 27KW
We used to use the ATMOR 27KW system, requiring (3) 2 pole, 40 amp circuits. These units will always be recessed in a 2x6 wall and will not require sleeving or disconnects.
See the Plumbing Hot Water Heater Guide to understand what will be installed.
WHEN INSTALLING: TAPE THE BREAKERS IN THE OFF POSITION TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE DEVICE WHEN PURGING AIR FROM THE WATERLINE.
RHEEM PERFORMANCE 27KW TANKLESS WATER HEATER
We use the Rheem Performance 27 kw Self-Modulating 5.27 GPM Tankless Electric Water Heater. These units will always be recessed in a 2x6 wall and will not require sleeving or disconnects.
This 27 kw tankless water heater takes three 40 amp double-pole breakers and takes 3 runs of 6-2 wire.
This provides continuous on-demand of hot water up to 6.6 gallons per minute. This can support 4 showers & 1 faucet.
WHEN INSTALLING: TAPE THE BREAKERS IN THE OFF POSITION TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE DEVICE WHEN PURGING AIR FROM THE WATERLINE.
See the Installation Instructions (at the bottom of this page).
RHEEM PERFORMANCE 13KW
We use the Rheem Performance 13 kw Self-Modulating 2.54 GPM Tankless Electric Water Heater. These units will always be recessed in a 2x6 wall and will not require sleeving or disconnects.
This 13kw tankless water heater runs in 4-2 wires and needs a 60 Amp double-pole circuit breaker.
This provides continuous on-demand of hot water up to 3.1 gallons per minute. This can support up to 2 showers only. If you have more than 2 showers, you must use Rheem Performance 27 kw Self-Modulating 5.27 GPM Tankless Electric Water Heater.
WHEN INSTALLING: TAPE THE BREAKERS IN THE OFF POSITION TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE DEVICE WHEN PURGING AIR FROM THE WATERLINE.
See the Installation Instructions (at the bottom of this page).
Also, this adjustable flow rate water-saving shower head needs to be installed when we do a 60 amp tankless water heater
When using the smaller heater, we also need to use an in-line flow regulator. This is neccessary for the showers to work. The regulator must be on the HOT WATER SIDE of the tankless heater.
WE PREFER THE ONE WITH THE PRESSURE VALVE WITH A BRASS BODY.
