APPROVED PAINT COLORS FOR SIDINGS
All colors should be from the Approved Colors Sheet. See below (you can click the link).
The fronts of houses should be done in either cedar shake or fish scale siding (DO NOT use both). A straight dutch lap can be used to accent the front and should be installed around the rest of the house. If the house has a highly used or highly visible back, the back may be done similarly to a front. See below for the acceptable examples:
Board and Baten Sidings Color
SOFFIT: All houses should have a soffit if vinyl is installed. Only use Vented Soffit.
VENTS: All houses should have gable vents. A Gable Vent may be made out of soffit, or one can be purchased.
LEVELING: Always make sure that a wall is straight. Use a Plumbob and along a line of string to level a house vertically. Make sure the house is plumb laterally, as well.
TYVEK: It should be installed in all houses. Fanfold is generally not used, but if it is, it must be covered with Tyvek.
ASBESTOS/WOOD: If asbestos or wood siding exists and is in good shape (unlikely), paint is acceptable. But, if it is severely damaged, encapsulate and install vinyl on top of it.
**WEAR A MASK**
*Nail on Tyvek to cover the entirety of the material being covered. Do this by nailing at the top of the exterior wall, (where there is no asbestos) and draping the Tyvek down the wall; and nailing into the bottom of the well (where there is no asbestos). Tape all seams and areas that meet doors and windows. DO NOT NAIL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WALL.
*Cover with 3/8’’ OSB, starting at the bottom of the wall and working your way up. Be sure to start runs of nails/screws at the bottom of the house and work up to the top. If you need to level the wall, do so now.
*Install siding as described above.
We use D7 style siding from ABC supply for the houses- we also generally get windows from ABC supply, as they can make them to any dimension that we want.
If you do not want to get the windows from ABC supply because you cannot install them, we suggest Window World- they will install and wrap. Window world does NOT need you to be at the job site to do a quote.
Inproper nailing will cause damage
We should always make sure that we are aware of possible damage when we are working. Here's an example of these.
When a power company was hooking up the power to the cabin, there were 3 siding nails that had been shot into the electrical panel.
One of the nails went through the back of the panel, and Into the bar that distributes power to the entire house. Because of this- the panel needs to be swapped out and re-inspected. I bought the panel last night.
