THE CONTRACTOR HAS THE FREEDOM TO SELECT LIGHTS FOLLOWING THE CRITERIA LAYOUT BELOW.
Bathrooms: Install a vent fan with a light (under $50) and a vanity light (check vent fan install how-to). The vanity light (~$30) should be similar to the vanity and be no less than 3 bulbs. It should be located ~1’ in the center from the ceiling.
SHOWER:
Install a wet-rated light in the shower stall, and install 2 in a bathtub or LARGE shower:
BEDROOMS:
Install a ceiling fan (~$50) in the master bedroom. If the master bedroom is large enough, install another light. All other bedrooms should have a 2-bulb or equivalent fixture (~$30 each).
When running EMT, make sure that the supports sit OFF of the wall like in the above picture. THIS ALLOWS FOR YOU TO PAINT BEHIND THE EMT, as we don't want paint on the EMT.
DINING ROOMS:
Should have a unique light installed in a fan box. Up to $100 can be spent on this light. If it hangs by a chain, hang it so that there are many extra chains, but have it coiled up so that the height may be adjusted.
HALLWAYS:
Install track lighting with no less than 3 lights, or pancake-style lights, according to the space- 1 for every 4 feet of linear hallways space.
KITCHENS:
Kitchens should have adequate light. Generally, track lighting is preferred. Use a surface mount box, and run EMT from the MAIN light in the kitchen to a pendant light mounted over the sink. You may spend up to $200 on kitchen lighting.
There should be a pendant light above the sink. These should cost no more than $50.
LIVING ROOMS:
Install an attractive fixture such as the following (~$80 - $135). It should provide ample light and be close enough to the ceiling that headroom is not an issue. Use of EMT is allowed.
EXTERIOR:
Exposed Schedule 40 PVC is allowed to be run on the house's exterior. Surface mounting of boxes is encouraged.
All front doors of houses should have 2 fixtures on each side of the door. They should be hardwired, so they cannot be turned off any other place but the panel box. They should be on dusk till dawn sensors. The lights should not have removable lights.
All back doors should have a single light, a light that is not removable. It should be hardwired and on a dusk till dawn sensor like front lights.
ANCILLARY LIGHTING:
Anywhere you think light could be used. Where there will not be enough, use surface mount lights. These 7.5’’ LEDs are fantastic.
VENT FANS:
Each attic and crawl space will need a vent fan installed. See the Vent Fan Sheet for details. Next to the crawl space door(s), THERE SHOULD BE A LIGHT INSTALLED IN THE CRAWL SPACE, IN A SWITCH.
