On Demand is a web-based, graphical interface for Bridges 2. In some cases, it can be used in lieu of ssh and sftp, and is useful if you are uncomfortable with a traditional command-line interface. However, even using On Demand, a command line is often still needed to perform our tasks.
Go to ondemand.bridges2.psc.edu. Enter your PSC username and password. If you have not set a PSC password, you can set one on the PSC website.
The home screen displays a warning message regarding acceptable use of the system. The top bar contains all the navigation information. The useful functions for us are Files, Jobs, and Clusters.
When you open a folder (either Home or /ocean, where project files are stored), you are given the interface shown below. You can upload, download, and view files, as well as create new files and directories graphically. The highlighted folder, .., is a shortcut to take you one directory higher in the hierarchy.
To access the COVID-19 project's mass storage, select Files > Ocean. Then, navigate to projects > mcb200058p > yourusername. You can create, edit, and remove files and directories there.
Under Jobs > Active Jobs, you can view jobs you currently have running. The job name, account number, time running, resource, and status are shown for each running job.
You can also view further details about the job by expanding the listing.
Under Cluster > Bridges-2 Shell Access, you can get a Bridges-2 command line in your browser. This works exactly like ssh on your terminal, and no modifications need to be made to use it. However, you may have problems with nano or other, more complex interfaces. If you do, you can always switch back to ssh in your own terminal.
