I was born and raised in Japan, and moved to Australia in the last year of high school. After receiving Bachelor of Science from Flinder University of South Australia, I did PhD at the same university. In graduate school, while doing my PhD project, I taught undergraduate students a wide range of subjects such as biology, environmental science, statistics and nanotechnology. After finishing PhD, Dr David Dawson invited me to Oregon Health & Science University as a post-doctoral fellow. I appreciated the oppotunities to do research and teach at this medical school. In 2013, I came to Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine as assitant professor.
My long-range goal is to develop new medical therapies via engineering of protein functions and ultimately cellular functions. DNA and RNA therapies are powerful but can be dangerous without deep understanding of cell physiology. Our current focus is ion channels and membrane receptors (especially GPCRs) but the long-range goal is to control cellular functions through manipulations of DNA and RNA.
Once you take the PrinciplesYou personality test and add me as a "friend", you can see my archetype and find similarities and differences. If you can remember these, it will help with our communication. Feel free to contact me via email, zoom, slack etc. If you don't get a response, please try again. I will make time for my research assistants.
