Diablo Weavers Guild meets in Walnut Creek, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month from September through June, 10:00 am until noon or a little later. We do not meet in July and August.
New members and guests are welcome.
In September, December and June we meet at a member's home. Other meetings are usually held at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek (Ygnacio Valley Library).

Membership:
Dues for the 2017-18 year, September - June, are $30 per person; $40 per family. If joining half way through the year, dues are $15.

Our September meeting will be at Carol Causey's house, starting at 10:00 am, where we will share what we did over the summer and also have our annual Swap and Sell. Anything goes for selling with a small donation to the guild treasury for those who sell items.
Also bring to the meeting any woven shibori projects completed from our shibori workshop and dye day.
At the meeting we will also start planning for the November exhibit at the Orinda Library (see below).
Vilija will be collecting dues from those who have not yet paid. Dues for the 2017-2018 year are $30 per person or $40 per family.

Diablo Weavers' Exhibit at the Orinda Library
Thanks to Margie's initiative and Margie and Vilija following through with planning, Diablo Weavers will have an Exhibit at the Orinda Library during the month of November.
There are details to keep in mind, including filling out a liability document for the city of Orinda. If you have something you would like to display, please plan on bringing it as early as our September meeting. See general instructions on this page: November Library Exhibit

Congratulations to Lillian, who was awarded the Edith Whiteman Memorial Award, for handwoven artwork of the highest caliber of craftsmanship and technical ability.
Her piece Weaver's Knot was part of Small Expressions 2017, HGA's annual juried exhibit of small scale fiber art.

Dive deeper into the subject of natural dyes with three experts! Leading natural dye expert Michel Garcia will expound on chemotaxonomy, a system of biological classification based on structural similarities of chemical compounds. UCBG Director of Collections and Research Dr. Vanessa Handley will discuss modern taxonomy and plant classification, a foundation which can help dyers explore questions of phytotaxonomy and select dyes based on their relationships. SFSU Chemistry and Biochemistry professor emeritus Dr. Margareta Séquin will elaborate on the chemistry of plant pigments.
Morning coffee will be provided at 9:00am. Bring a brown bag lunch and stay for a picnic and informal discussion in the Botanical Garden following the program.

A beautiful exhibition of the textiles of Jolom Mayaetik is now on display in the International Terminal of the San Francisco Airport Museum. It will be up until next April. It’s easy to reach by taking BART directly to the airport.

Thread Heads: New Bay Area Fiber Art

Juried by three practicing textile artists and curators: Marion Coleman, Karen Hampton, and Tali Weinburg.
In the early 1970s, a craft revolution swept the country. It coincided with the burgeoning women’s movement, the gay rights movement, the back-to-land movement, and many other movements, which were coalescing in the wake of the Vietnam War protests. Berkeley artists were at the center of this, and gave rise to groundbreaking work that challenged the traditional association of women with textiles in the domestic sphere.
Berkeley Art Center has a rich tradition of celebrating fiber arts over the past five decades. During our 50th Anniversary year we saw the opportunity to examine the current state of Bay Area fiber arts and pose the question: “What social and political circumstances are influencing the crafts movement of the new millennium?” Jurors will select artists whose work communicates a message, emotion or meaning beyond just the literal meaning of the object.
