November-December 2011

November 2011 & December 2011

Diablo Weavers Guild meets once a month, September through June, usually on the third Friday of the month.

New members and guests are always welcome.

Meeting and Speaker: November 18, 10:00 am

at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek

In September, December and June we usually meet at a member's home.

December 16, 2011 was our annual holiday luncheon at Vilija's. Our regular meeting on the third Friday of the month will resume in January 2012.

November Speaker: Bonnie Wells

Work in cloth reflects the story of my journey in life. One that has helped me learn a great deal about myself and perhaps my place in the world ~ through experiments made, both public and private, through cherished failures, successes and the many obstacles I encountered, and continue to encounter, along the way. This is a very personal story, of a commitment to the handmade, of respect for the creative impulse.

Possible Program for 2012:

Is there interest in a program/workshop on knitting and beading?

If so, Vilija will explore the possibility of sharing expenses with Treadles to Threads to sponsor a workshop by a woman from Colorado who creates beautiful knitted "wristers", wrist warmers embellished with beads.

Use a beading chart and garter stitch for a simple design:

Or knowing how to read and work from beading charts, you can make beautiful jeweled wrist warmer cuffs with a more complex design as below:

Looking ahead to December, and our annual Holiday Luncheon:

We will be gathering at Vilija's house: Dec. 16th at 11 am.

Bring a salad/dessert or other dish to share, and a small gift for exchange.
