February 2013

Diablo Weavers Guild meets once a month, September through June, usually on the third Friday of the month at the Thurmand Casey library in Walnut Creek.

Meeting location

New members and guests are always welcome.

In September, December and June we usually meet at a member's home.

Meeting: Friday February 15, 2013

10:00 AM at the library

An exploration of eTextiles

Sharon will be leading us in putting together an eTextiles project. Here is her description of what we will be doing at the meeting and what to bring:

Our kits are from aniomagic.com. They are very simple and should easily be put together during the meeting. Bring sharp, small scissors and a variety of needles as it involves sewing. Some felt will be provided, but you can work with an actual project. A tutorial and a project using cross stitch is at www.sparkfun.com/news/608

The tutorial uses different components, but the technique is the same. I have ordered some additional sequins - the little lights we will be using - and some additional conductive thread - for the more ambitious among you. You can google etextiles and wander around this new world. I googled e textile projects. It is all very experimental.

We will have plenty of time to share and chat, I think. sharon

Snacks for the meeting: Rose and Vilija

Recent Guild Activity

Joan, Vilija and Mary-Helen represented Diablo Weavers by demonstrating weaving at Forest Home Farms on Saturday, January 12. Mary-Helen also brought a friend who is learning rigid heddle weaving.

January 12- Textiles and Toys On a chilly winter day it is time to work and play under shelter when you can. Visit the Walnut Barn to see demonstrations of old time fiber arts such as spinning, knitting and embroidery, and try your hand at darning. When your work is done, have fun testing your skills at games such as marbles, pick-up sticks, and Jacob’s ladder then make a wooden top to take home.

Pictures from Mary-Helen, who added that "Despite the cold, there were a dozen visitors who tried their hands with our rigid heddle looms."
