April 2013

Meeting: Friday April 26, 10:00 am at the library

~Will & Kate will share with us their experiences traveling in South America~

Diablo Weavers Guild meets once a month, September through June, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month at the Thurmand Casey library in Walnut Creek.

Meeting location

New members and guests are always welcome.

In September, December and June we usually meet at a member's home.

Our meeting date depends on the availability of the meeting room at the library.

In October, January and April we often meet on the fourth Friday of the month as a Book Sale is scheduled for the third Friday. November, February, March and May we usually meet on the third Friday of the month.

CNCH 2013, May 31 - June 2 ~ Update from Joan:

Classes have opened up on an individual basis at $75 for a 3 hour class. You do not have to pay for registration but you can only attend the classes you sign up for and the vendor's sale on Friday. No evening activities are included. Go to www.CNCH.org and on the left bar go to CNCH 2013. Start with Classes at a Glance to see what is still available. This is a great opportunity to take classes on one day if you are not available all weekend. You can still get a room at the Squaw Valley Resort. If you have a place to stay nearby, this is a cheaper way to attend.

The Textile Parade has extended their entry deadline to May 10. I will bring entry forms to the meeting. It is like our guild sharing. You do not need to parade in front of everyone. You can wear an item, carry it or just show it. You can read more about it on their site. Remember you need to make a lanyard or bring a ribbon. There is a contest and I'm not sure if you can still enter that.

If you have a donation to the scholarship raffle please bring it to the meeting. I have some nice things. I am going to turn in our donations as a collective of our guild and Treadles to Threads as most of the people who have donated are from both guilds. They are getting donations from the vendors for Friday's tailgate sale so what I have will compliment those things. I thank those that have donated items. I will be bringing the items to the conference and I am very proud of the quality of our donations!

Excavating Layers

This exhibition of mixed-media artwork illustrates how artists excavate new and historic images and materials to reveal particular tensions between figuration and abstraction and create new layers of visual and conceptual meanings. These layers signify the multiple systems that one experiences every day- home, community, society, nature, history, the world at large and one’s place within order and chaos. Artists included are Tony Berlant, Shenny Phillips Cruces, Brian Dettmer, Monika Lin, Brian Rutenberg, Robert Sagerman, and Dana Hart Stone.
