May 21 Program: Shibori type knotting

Kathy will lead us in starting a scarf with a Shibori type of knotting and dying that she saw while in India.

We will each have a scarf to work with and get started knotting. Kathy will also have a short video from the web that demonstrates the technique she saw on her travels in India.

At the June luncheon we will continue this project with dying the scarf.

Supplies to bring to the meeting:

    • scarf will be provided

    • cotton thread

      • Surger thread or basting thread is the best. It must pop easily when the dying is complete, so no polyester, linen or silk.

    • design ideas

      • Kathy worked from a photo. Quiliting stencils are good. Anything works that will inspire you.

    • pencil or some way of marking the fabric

    • sewing needle

    • small scissors

Snack for May: Carol DeB.

Save the date: June 11, 2010

The annual June picnic luncheon will be on Friday, June 11 at Vilija's. Bring something to share for lunch, and we will continue with the Shibori project.

Also at the June picnic meeting we will have lots of yarn, fiber and weaving equipment that Julie's husband donated to the guild.

The two large looms will not be there, as they are big and not easy to move! However, if anyone would like to come and see the looms, please contact Carol.

CNCH 2012 Organizational Meeting update from Joan:

Meeting, Saturday May 22, 10 am

Northgate Clubhouse

Walnut Creek

Directions: From the west take 24. As you near Walnut Creek stay in the middle lane and take Ygnacio Valley Road. Turn right and continue about 4 miles, past Walnut Blvd and John Muir Medical Center and construction. Turn right on Walnut Ave at major light. Continue to end of street to circle. Go right on Oak Grove and almost immediately left on Northgate Rd. Just past the Mormon Church, turn right on Trail's End. There is a sign that says Northgate. At the end of Trail's End turn left. The clubhouse is on the right. There is limited parking in front but you can park on one side of road. DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE BARN OR IN TRAILER AREA!

From S 680, take Ygnacio Valley Road and follow above directions.

From N 680 take Treat Exit. Go left on So. Main and then left on Treat. Turn right at Bancroft, cross Ygnacio Valley Rd. and continue on Walnut Ave (name changes) as above.

There is no address for the clubhouse so if you want to use Mapquest you can use my address of 3111 Broncho Lane, WC. If you need to contact me call or email: Joanweave@aol.com.

BART is not close but if you know someone in the area you may be able to arrange for them to pick you up at the station. It is on Ygnacio Valley Road so follow directions from that point.

I plan on discussing sites and dates and also brainstorming about how long a conference, themes, etc. I don't plan on having another big meeting until fall; if needed we may have a smaller meeting with the people who have volunteered to pin down a site.
