Diablo Weavers Guild meets in Walnut Creek, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month from September through June, 10:00 am until noon or a little later. We do not meet in July and August.

New members and guests are welcome.

In September, December and June we meet at a member's home. Other meetings are usually held at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek (Ygnacio Valley Library).

Dues for the 2017-18 year, September - June, are $30 per person; $40 per family. If joining half way through the year, dues are $15.

June Meeting

Friday, June 8, 2018, 11:00 am

Our last meeting of the year will be our annual pot-luck luncheon at Vilija's, on Friday, June 8 (the second Friday of the month) starting at 11:00 am. Bring a dish to share and the results of our Eco-dye printing dye day.

For a picnic project we will be continuing to prepare the rulers with weaving, kumihimo or tassels attached.

New Fiber Studio in Crocket

Melanie Perkins, a member of Spindles and Flyers, has recently planned and organized a new community gathering and teaching space for all things fiber related. She has classes, a limited amount of equipment for sale, and events planned throughout the year. Her grand opening is planned for June 1, this coming Friday, from 2:00 - 8:00 pm. There will be light snacks, a variety of beverages, and a chance to find out about the studio, membership, and classes.

Her website is up, but not ready for taking orders or class registrations yet.

Thread Count: New Directions in Fiber Art is an opportunity for artists to illustrate the unique qualities of thread and textiles in conveying meaning through mark-making and structure. Stitch, surface, construction, joinery, embellishment: contemporary fiber artists use these methods and others to link craft and design, invoke social and environmental concepts, and alter or refresh views of fashion. Artworks include sculptures, wearables, and wall-hangings.

Museum of Craft & Design

ANCHOR IN TIME, a retrospective exhibit of work by DOMINIC DI MARE, is June 2 - October 28, at the Museum of Craft & Design, 2569 Third St, S.F.

Hours are 11-6, Tues-Sat, and 12 - 5, Sun.

Fees are Adults: $8 and Seniors: $6. First Tuesdays are Free.

Dominic's small mixed media sculptures incorporate dimensional weaving and cast paper, which serve as the inspiration for his current works on paper. He was one of Helen Pope's favorite artists. More information at sfmcd.org
