Diablo Weavers Guild meets in Walnut Creek, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month from September through June, 10:00 am, until noon or a little later.
New members and guests are welcome.
In September, December and June we meet at a member's home. Other meetings are usually held at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek (Ygnacio Valley Library).

BEYOND THE SURFACE
This juried exhibition from the Northern California Surface Design Association (SDA) includes nineteen artworks that display a wide range of fiber art techniques, in both two and three-dimensions. Artists in this exhibition explore new variations of traditional techniques--felting, weaving, coiling, stitching, dyeing, painting, printing, quilting, and embroidery--using modern materials, often to express contemporary social or political ideas.

THE SAN FRANCISCO TRIBAL & TEXTILE ARTS SHOW
The Tribal Arts Show, Feb. 19 - 21, at Ft. Mason features the "Art of Asia, Africa, Oceania and The Americas".
In addition to 80 dealer booths of ethnic art, there will be special exhibits of Ainu and Indian textiles and crafts. Hours are Fri & Sat 11-7 and Sun 11-5. Admission of $20 includes a catelogue and the priceless opportunity to see and actually touch many museum quality pieces.

Voices in Cloth 2016
East Bay Heritage Quilters biannual show, Voices in Cloth 2016, is March 19-20 at the Craneway Pavillion in Richmond. Vendors, exhibits and demonstrations are featured. Video about Khipu archives
Sharon passed on links to a video of an interesting talk which took place in Berkeley this month, at the Institute of Andean Studies Annual meeting. This presentation is about the Inkawasi Khipu. A khipu, or knot-record, was used by the Incas and other ancient Andean cultures to keep extensive records and communicate.

HGA Call for Artists
The Handweavers Guild of America announces a call to all fiber artists for entries in our 2016 exhibitions taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Exhibitions will take place August 3 - 6, 2016 at the Wisconsin Center with the exception of Small Expressions which will take place July 23 - August 14, 2016 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Exhibitions include:
International juried exhibit of small-scale fiber pieces sponsored annually by the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. Deadline to enter is January 19, 2016.
Moving Forward Fashion Show and Exhibit
International juried exhibit featuring one-of-a-kind fashion that shows understanding of the body and body movement, along with runway presence and overall suitability of the technique and/or materials. Deadline to enter is January 20, 2016.
An international juried exhibit featuring lengths of constructed or embellished yardage. Deadline to enter is January 27, 2016.
International juried exhibit open to work created using any fiber arts technique. Deadline to enter isFebruary 1, 2016.
HGA’s Convergence® 2016 conference offers a broad range of exhibits for a wide variety of fiber arts. We invite you to enter your work in these juried exhibits that showcase the best in weaving, spinning, dyeing, basketmaking, and related fiber arts. Create a piece that embodies the Convergence® 2016 spirit.
Cost to enter per exhibition is $30 for members, $45 for non-members, and free for students. The juror will independently screen all images and make the preliminary selection of all work in the exhibition. Entries will be evaluated on concept, design, technique, craftsmanship and creative exploration. Pieces must be originally conceived and created by the entrant. All work must be of exhibition quality, completed within the last two years (since January 2014) and not previously published in any national or international print publication.
