Diablo Weavers Guild meets in Walnut Creek, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month from September through June, 10:00 am until noon or a little later. We do not meet in July and August.
New members and guests are welcome.
In September, December and June we meet at a member's home. Other meetings are usually held at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek (Ygnacio Valley Library).

Dues for the 2018-19 year, September - June, are $30 per person; $40 per family. If joining half way through the year, dues are $15.
We are encouraging everyone to bring their own mug or cup for hot tea or coffee. The guild provides tea and instant coffee, plates and napkins. We will have some drink cups available as well.

Program: Making a small bag
At CNCH 2019 in June, participants will need a small bag or purse to carry with them. Large bags are not allowed in the cafeteria, only a bag 6 x 9 or smaller that will fit into a quart sized plastic bag.
There will also be an informal "Tiny Purse Contest" where you can vote for your favorite bag. At our meeting you will have a chance to get started on a bag, either to take to the conference or just for fun!

Tiny Purse Contest
CNCH 2019’s theme is Fiber Therapy and attendees are asked to make a “First Aid Kit”. As a tiny purse, it will used to carry whatever small essentials you need to carry with you, such as a room key, phone, etc., into the cafeteria. The cafeteria does not allow carrying bags inside, but will allow our project: a bag no larger than 6” X 9” and it must fit into a quart size plastic bag. You can add a handle, a cross body strap or make it a clutch. Nothing larger will be allowed into the cafeteria.
Bags will be judged by attendees and prizes will be awarded Sunday morning at breakfast.
Many of you most definitely have scraps and pieces of weavings that would fit this size. At the March meeting we are going to have a workshop to begin work on the bags.
We will have some fabric that can be used if you have nothing, along with a sewing machine. We’ll also have a short demo on a very easy way to install a zipper and lining in one step. Bring a zipper and lining material if you would like help doing this during the meeting on your own fabric.
Please bring scissors, pins and whatever else you need. It will be fun to see what others make. You can then take your bag home and have a couple of months to finish and embellish it. If you’re not going to the conference you can still make a bag just for fun and to use some of your your stash! Come for the inspiration and leave with a great project.
From Susie: I have an extra simple tiny purse pattern for those of us who are Zipper Phobic. I can bring pattern copies and show how to make it at the March Meeting. People need to bring scissors, felt tip pen. needle, thread, a shoe string and non-raveling fabric like cotton flannel, brushed poly or the like. The 2 seams of the purse can be either sewed by machine or hand. If hand woven fabric is used, the cut edges need to be stabilized by Frey Check or machine stitching. If you have it, bring a 9 x 6 mailing envelope to use as a pattern.

August 1-9: Creative Textile Adventure focuses on textile workshops with rural partner artisans. Topics include but not limited to natural dyes, warp ikat, backstrap weft brocade, and embroidery. We want to include special interests, so please let us know. This portion includes visits/stays in Antigua, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Sumpango, Chichicastenango, and Lake Atitlán (several villages). $1950 per person.
August 8-14: The Quetzal Adventure takes us truly off the beaten path to visit partner weavers in a lush cloud forest region of Guatemala. This adventure features rural villages, colorful markets, home- cooked regional specialties in weavers’ homes, and breath-taking nature. Visits/stays include Antigua, Cobán and its surroundings (2+ villages), Semuc Champey, and hopefully some quetzal sightings. $1750 per person.

CNCH Conference Registration
The CNCH Conference for 2019 will be held at Sonoma State University, June 20-23. Registration opened January 15, 2019 and will be open thorough March 15. Many workshops are full, however there are some spots still available in several interesting workshops.
The registration fee includes workshop, lodging and meals, and parking. A Companion registration is also available for lodging and meals. See the CNCH website for details about events at the conference and workshop options.
