Diablo Weavers Meeting Friday, November 20, 2020

Our November meeting will be at 10 am on Friday, November 20, the third Friday of the month. You will receive an email Zoom invite before then.

November Program

Video Presentation with Linda Adamson About Weaving Gamps

New weavers have often been encouraged to weave a gamp or two to explore not only color interactions, but also structure interactions. Linda talks about weaving twills and overshot gamps, with colorful threads and monochrome threads. Even experienced weavers can take a step back to do some explorations of this useful exercise. Linda will not be speaking to us in person, but if anyone has questions or comments on Gamp weaving, we certainly have lots of experienced weavers in our Guild to have a discussion. If you have some Gamps you have woven, send photos in to Vilija for Show & Tell.

Each month for sharing, photos for Diablo should be sent to Vilija by noon on the Thursday before each meeting. That gives her enough time to get the last minute ones in. The sooner, the better for her. However, she said that she can definitely handle “last minute”.

Mayan Weavers Cooperative Online Sale

Jolom Mayaetik at the Hillside Club

Charlene Woodcock gave a presentation for Diablo several years ago about her work with the Jolom Mayaetik Weavers Cooperative. Here is an update from her about the annual holiday sale.

Some of you will have visited the Hillside Club in Berkeley for the annual Holiday Art Sale, which this year is accessible online. As you think about holiday gifts, I hope you’ll scroll through the photos of handwoven textiles from the Jolom Mayaetik weavers’ cooperative for possibilities. There was a good response to the email I sent out in August, when I learned of the significant loss of income for the weavers as the pandemic closed markets. I hope many of you will find something among the cooperative’s work that would please someone you know. I can provide small cards for gift purchases that give a brief history of the cooperative. To arrange for a purchase, email me at charlene@woodynet.net.
