April 2012

Diablo Weavers Guild meets once a month, September through June, usually on the third Friday of the month.

Meeting location

New members and guests are always welcome.

In September, December and June we usually meet at a member's home.

April 27, 2012, 10:00 am

Meeting at the library on Oak Grove in Walnut Creek.

This is a change from the third Friday and a "prep" for the conference.

Snack for the April Meeting: Vilija

This meeting will be a "prep" for conference. We're asking people to bring paper cutters of any kind - a mat if they want to use a wheel cutter. We will get all the tickets for classes cut and ready for Golden Gate to stuff. We will also be putting the ribbons on the name tags for registrants to pick up at registration. Plus anything else that Joan needs to have done [thats actually doable at the library!]. Please don't skip this meeting just because there is no program - "many hands make light work".

No meeting scheduled for May 17 since it is the day before Conference begins and most of us will be in Oakland getting ready.

The June picnic at Vilija's house is June 16, which is St. Regis' Day - the patron saint of lacemakers. Bring a woven [[or any kind] of lace project for show & tell that you've done in the past.

CNCH 2012 Conference Update:

Final date to enter items to the CNCH 2012 Galleries has been extended to May 1.

You still have time to enter an item to display!

Tablet Weaving with Patricia Townsend

A two Saturday class is scheduled for May 5 and May 12, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

at the Richmond Art Center:

www.therac.org

Tablet (card) weaving is an ancient Old World technique. It is done without a loom, is portable and affordable. The possibilities are inexhaustible -- from cotton and silk, to wire and beads. Make belts, camera or guitar straps, small bags, bracelets or headbands. Leave with a project set up and endless ideas to explore.

$135 for RAC members ; non-member $165

$15 materials fee to instructor.

From Susie Hodges:

Dear Friends,

My Berkeley neighbor, Holly Wilson, wants to give away her excess weaving equipment to a good home. She is a production clothing weaver and a longtime member of Golden Gate Weavers.

Her first offerings are the following:

1. A LeClerq warping reel

2. A full size warping board

3. A big Gilmore production warping reel that can warp up to 60 yards. It has never been used and is disassembled and easy to transport in a car.

Contact Holly at 510-527-4621 or Hollywaer@mac.com

There may be more goodies as she works her way through the pile.

Regards, Susie

Loom for sale:

From an email from Paula Rainey:

My friend Alice has a 62", 4-harness

loom that she must find a home for. Alice says that her family has had the

loom for about 70 years. It is all wood and appears to be well made. We

could not find a manufactures name on it. It is in excellent

condition--probably last used more than 40 years ago. The loom is in

Sunnyvale, California

Please call Paula for more information 510 522 8005, prainey@mac.com
