In technology class we were using Canva to design various things such as movie posters and logos. One of the options you could choose to create was an infographic. The topic I chose to research being the ocean. I chose this topic because it was vast, which meant I had what felt like an unlimited amount of unique information to work with.
When researching for my infographic, I visited numerous websites all related to my topic.
I used Canva.com to create my project.
To create my infographic, I used the program, Canva. To begin, I logged in using my school account. I went to create a design, and chose an infographic. After I chose this, I was given a blank infographic to work with. I then went to the elements section of Canva, and began creating my infographic. I used multiple things such as basic shapes and images to create a background. Then, I centered the title of my infographic at the top, which was, “All About the Ocean: By the Numbers.”
Below the title, I made several text boxes and titled them Sea Creatures, Whales, Plants, Jellyfish, Fish, and Sharks so that I could neatly display all my information. I created more text boxes below those to add a number that would represent the information; and one under the number to give a description. In order to fill up empty space, I added graphics corresponding to each section of information. This made my infographic look more professional and lively.
For my title, I used the font Fredoka One at size 66.2. For the font of each of my sections, I used Fredoka One again, all of them being size 32. For my descriptions, I used Fredoka One at size 22, and finally, for the numbers, I used the font Gently Sans at size 74.2. When all of this was completed, I added my sources in the bottom left corner of my infographic.
When creating my infographic with Canva, I learned that there was an extensive amount of materials that you could work with. I learned that you could add effects to your text to make it look less flat, and that you could layer images to make things look neater. In addition to this, I figured out how to remove backgrounds of images, and discovered the ability to change the transparency of graphics.
I organized my infographic so that everything would have a certain place. The reason I chose the colors for my infographic was because it was about the ocean. I used multiple colors such as blue, light orange, and shades of green because that's what I thought of when I thought of the ocean. Blue being the water; light orange being sand; and green being plants such as seaweed. In general, I tried to make the ocean theme apparent. I would add images revolving around the text so that anyone who viewed it could have an example regarding the information.
