How to Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies

To create my infographic project, I used a website called Piktochart. It was easy to use, connected through google, and had a multitude of images and features. Once I decided on my topic, How to Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies, I started researching how to make chocolate chip cookies. I outlined what I would need to present on the infograph. I ended up making 3 banners to showcase the steps and labeled them 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I added an empty text box for my ingredients, and vaguely placed the banners and text box where I thought would make the most sense. After I had a pretty good outline, I started on the text. I knew the basics of how to make cookies, so I started with that. I wrote out the step-by-step process of how to mix in the ingredients.

Once I finished all the steps, I started with the background. I wanted a background that represented my topic. I chose a background with sprinkles on it. I wanted it to look simple, but informative and fun. Finally I worked on the title. I added the title and the ingredients banner. The infograph seemed a little bland, so I added two small images of a cartoon cookies. To find the cookies, I went to Google Images. I searched chocolate chip cookie clipart and clicked images. To make sure the image was copyright free, I clicked tools and labeled for reuse.

I did face some problems. Some problems I faced were, the sprinkles were causing the text to look messed up, making the font look appropriate for the topic, and fitting it all on the page. I fixed these problems by doing multiple steps. First, the sprinkles kept messing up the text, so I decided to put a white banner behind the text. This caused more problems, it kept going in front of the text instead of behind it. I had to fix this because you couldn’t see the text. I searched for layers and anything that could help, and I found a button four from the right that had a couple options to move around. I pressed send to back while pressing the banner. This fixed this problem. Another problem I had was making it look like everything fit together. This problem was a little easier to fix, I had to test out a couple of fonts. I chose a font that seemed most appropriate. The middle text didn’t fit in the banner, though. I made it smaller and it didn’t look right, so I decided to make it brown like chocolate chips and underlined it to make it stand out. That fixed this problem. My last major problem I had was spacing. It didn’t all seem to fit correctly. I wanted the steps to not be so close to each other. To fix this problem I had to play around with the format. I ended up having the ingredients in the middle with the steps around the ingredients. That is how I fixed some of the problems I faced while creating my infographic.

There were a variety of things I liked and learned about making an infographic. For one, I liked the variety of options on the program I used. Another thing I liked about making the infographic was the ability to pick the colors I liked. This goes with the first thing I said, the availability of the options. All-in-all I liked most things about making the infographic, it was fun, creative, and made me use my brain. I also learned a lot from doing this project. For one, I learned about the wonderful program, Piktochart. I also learned about organization and how to manage extra space. I also learned things like time management, color coordination, and how to bake cookies. Those are just some of the things I learned while making a infographic.

All-in-all, I found making the infographic very fun and entertaining. It was a wonderful experience to learn new things. I am very pleased with how my infographic turned out, I felt it had a nice vibe to it. I also felt the colors and patterns fit together nicely. I would definitely suggest making an infographic to anyone who wants to try it.

Hometown Eats

To begin my infographic, I chose a blank template on the infographic creator Piktochart. At this point, I didn’t know what I was going to make it about, but that night we ate at a local restaurant, so I decided local restaurants would be the perfect topic!

I started by choosing a title template from Piktochart that had a fork and a spoon on it, and then added my title and subtitle on it. I then created a list of local restaurants I include in my infographic. I decided I would include Home Cafe, India Oven, Mariah’s, Montana Grille, and Spencer’s Coffee.

I knew I was going to need pictures of the food for my infographic, but if I bought the food myself, I realized I would be spending a lot more money than my parents were willing to, so I called the restaurants individually and asked for permission to use pictures from their Facebook pages and websites. After I got a yes from every restaurant, I began my first block.

I needed to decide on a general theme I would follow for the 5 blocks, so I first inserted a red ribbon title, a white text box, and a white canvas background. I then inserted two photo frames on either side of the block. Next, I attached ribbons on the left photo frame, where I would put short facts about each restaurant in addition to the main description. I typed up my description for the restaurant, and decided for facts I would put my personal favorite food there, their famous dish/drink, and a famous dessert.

Once my first block was finished, I copied and pasted that block 4 times so that each block would follow the same pattern. For each block, I changed the title and wrote out my facts and descriptions, as well as insert each restaurant’s respective images. After that I looked over my infographic, and decided to use a picture of Bowling Green from Wikimedia Commons on my title at the top to add more color. Finally, I looked over my infographic one last time, and decided it looked great.
