A Day at the Beach
I took this picture over fall break of 2017 using my iPhone. I was vacationing in Dolphin Island Alabama. My family and I decided to go on a walk one day. We soon came across a massive amount of gorgeous seashells littered across the beach. Before the clouds started to spit out rain I decided to take a picture.
A couple months later I saw this photo again while looking through photos of that trip. I saw the gloomy, uneven, and overall dismal appearance in the original photo. I looked back on that photo with fond memories, and I wanted a picture to match my memories, so I decided to manipulate it.
I am fan of photos that are edited in a natural look, so that is what I strived for. I use Apple's free photo editing software that is provided on each iPhone when I edit photos because of the simplicity of its interface. I started off by adding a filter that adds a lighting effect that tricks the eyes into seeing a “sharper image.” I then changed the saturation of the photo to get rid of some of the darker shadows and adjusted the color brightness. This changed the murky ocean and grey sky into an eye popping blue. After this, I added a few shadows to really highlight the beautiful shells. Once I had finished this I really thought that the new image fit my memories and it makes me smile every time I see it.

The Mountain
Over the summer of 2017, my family took a trip out west to Yosemite and many other National Parks. While at Yosemite, I took this picture of one of the mountains located there. While the picture itself looked nice, I believed I could enhance the image to show more beauty throughout.
I opened one of my favorite editing apps, Snapseed. I really like Snapseed because it is very user friendly. Another great feature of Snapseed is that it pairs well with Google Photos because it was developed by Google.
To begin the editing process, I increased the saturation of the picture and found that this gave the picture more texture as well as a greater depth to the mountain. Next, I modified the color effect. To modifying the color, I made the sky darker and made the mountain brighter which gave the overall image more character.
I really enjoyed manipulating this image. I think the manipulation makes the mountain look less bland and more eye catching.
