Digital Art
The Man in the Mirror that’s not in the Mirror
When I create digital art, I like to use a program called FireAlpaca. I use this program because it is fun. FireAlpaca is similar to (but better than) Microsoft Paint, but free, unlike Adobe Photoshop. I also used a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet as I drew. The tablet is used so you can draw with a stylus rather than a mouse.
My digital art is a cartoon version of me. Part of the cartoon has real features, while others are features I wanted to add.
To begin, I started out with a figure sketch, drawing out the basic features of my face. I then sketched out the details of my face. Next, I drew eyes, my nose, lips, and then my hair. Next, I added lineart. Lineart is a very tedious process where you have to be very careful to not mess up. Lineart adds lines and fine details to a drawing.
Once I was pleased with the fine details, I colored in my drawing. I used brown for the hair, turquoise for the eyes, and a lighter skin tone. Finally, I added shading and highlights to add depth to the overall drawing.
I used these colors because I wanted a lighter hair color. I have also wanted turquoise eyes since I was ten. I basically wanted white features on my asian face. The purple background represents the hierarchy of how that version of me is better than the real me.
My favorite part of the process was coloring. Coloring just relieves my stress. I have a lot of homework from geometry, biology and language arts. So being able to color and see my creation come to life relieves a lot of my school stress and makes me really elated.
The thing I like most about my product is the white border. It makes the drawing look clean and pop out off of the screen.
