I started working on this project in Academy. Academy is a daily class for students gifted in math and science. During Academy, we work on a variety of STEM projects in order to expand our interests and learning.
For this project, I chose to create a diet plan to a student athlete at my school.
To begin, I researched nutrients and what they do for our body. This way, I could figure out what an athlete would need to consume more or less of to benefit their sport needs.
My teacher then introduced us to the app, My Fitness Pal. My Fitness Pal is a free food and exercise tracker. Once you sign up, you take a short survey so the app can assign you a personalized diet plan. This app doesn’t tell you what foods you should specifically eat, but gives you outlines and goals of carbs, proteins, fats, and nutrients you should consume that day.
The athlete I chose to create a diet plan for is a soccer player and a good friend. We discussed her schedule and what practices and competitions/games are like for her. I took the information she shared and created a three day meal and hydration plan for her.
A problem that I faced while working on this project having stay within the goals set by MyFittnessPal. To do this I had to modify each meal to make sure I was giving the athlete a balanced diet.
A part of this project I really enjoyed was creating the diet plan. I found it interesting to make sure everything fit and worked together, almost like a puzzle!

We created this project in our social studies class. Our teacher created a shark tank project to help us learn more about the economical world and entrepreneurship. The purpose of the project was to study and learn about economics.
The product we created is a hair brush cleaner. Our product is a removeable attachment to the hairbrush which allows you to remove to remove the hair that gets collected and tangled on your hairbrush.
The project you see is our business plan. Our business plan includes our logo, the legal information, our mission statement, information about our target audience, information about our competition, promotions we will offer, and much more!
We made our logo using Adobe Spark. To begin we chose gray for the background because gray matches everything! Next, we chose yellow for the text because the color of the sun in yellow. We added a sun to the background to bring the logo together. We had to adjust the transparency so that the text could still be seen clearly. To make the logo more modern, we added yellow lines on each side of the text. We are very happy with the logo and we think it stands out!
One problem we encountered during this project was making a way to have multiple size attachments for different size brush heads. To fix this problem, we researched different mold sizes for different hair brush sizes.
What I liked most about this project was the way each student in our class could use their creativity. We had the option to work individually or in a team. We were also able to research any product that we wanted to sell.
While working on this project, we had to do a lot of research! We had to look up who our competition is and decide whether or not our product was better. We also researched many different types of advertising plans. We decided to advertise our business on Youtube, Instagram, and the television as we feel each of these will reach a large audience.
To make our business plan more user friendly, we hyperlinked the table of contents within the document. To do this, we first had to create a bookmark by choosing Insert → bookmark. Then we went to the table of contents. We highlighted each section and went to Insert → Link. We chose the bookmark option and chose the correct bookmark for each item. We think this made our project look cleaner and more organized. A business partner would easily be able to find anything they need quickly.
