Trico for the Last Guardian

The image I created is Trico. Trico is a character from the game The Last Guardian. The Last Gaurdian game was created by SIE Japan Studio, Team Ico, and Sony Interactive Entertainment which is available on PS4. I wanted to create Trico, because this is one of my favorite games. To create this digital art, I used Paint Tool SAI with a Wacom Intuos Creative Pen drawing tablet.
At first I was going to go for just any random scene of action where Trico would be catching the little boy. Afterwards though once I had finished my rough draft of the idea I had. I didn’t like it that much.
On my second rough sketch I went for something more calm and serene. While the first one was of Trico catching the little boy with his tail, my second sketch was of Trico lying down on the soft grass, looking up to the sky, watching the shooting star. With the little boy atop his back, also watching the starry night sky.
I used two different layers of luminosity, or lighting. I also added lighting onto Trico and the little boy both from the direction of the falling star to show that it was emitting light. As well as lighting around the moon to show it reflecting the sun’s light into the night sky.
I darkened areas of the ground around Trico to show his emitting shadow over the grass. In the background you can see all of the stars, the moon and in the foreground you see the falling star, Trico and the little boy. Trico has his head lifted up to the sky to look at the falling star that the boy is pointing to. They see the start of a meteor shower, a rare occurrence that usually happens every 72 years, nearly once every century.
The little boy had insisted to be on Trico’s back, because he wanted to stargaze the night of the meteor shower so he could be the one to make the first wish.
My favorite part of this image is Trico. I have a lot of fun drawing animals. I do not have a lot of experience drawing backgrounds, but this project helped me expand on that a bit.
Deep Sea Battle

To create my digital art, I used Gimp 2.8 and a Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet that I have been practicing on to draw this deep sea between a sinking submarine and a giant squid.
To begin I sketched my drawing on paper multiple times! Once I had my ideas down, I started drawing on my tablet. This was my first time using layers on a computer drawing. It was a bit tricky to figure it out at first. But I eventually figured it out with the help of my dad.
The background is my attempt of light going through a body of water. The submarine is based off a decoration in my families fish tank. The actual squid is based off of a doodle I made a long time ago in a composition book. The sketch I made for this picture has a lot more detail but I think the after product is just as good. Since this battle takes place underwater I made sure to make the backgrounds a dark shade of blue. The submarine needed to look like it had lots of pressure. I did that by making it crack in multiple places due to the squids deadly grip. In all I used 3 layers of drawings and color for the deep sea duel.
My drawing took many long hours to complete. It was worth all of the time though because I think the final product looks pretty good.
